Purpose

About Us – Excelsior Ideas was born out of a desire to make a difference in society and frustration with both the polarization of America and our social inequity issues.

When we started in founding date our passion for product or service type drove us to an action: create a product, start a community, etc. Now we serve customers all over your target market area: this could be a city, state, or the whole world, and are thrilled to share our passion with you.

About Us – Our Founding

Excelsior Ideas was founded by Kevin Thornton, a Metadata Manager, Data Engineer, and Developer with extensive Data Analysis experience, particularly in the Health Care field. During his work, the importance of Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) on healthcare became obvious. Researching these led to other social equity issues around homelessness, poverty, racism, crime, and education.

SDoH includes a variety of demographics – race, gender, age, income, employment, education, address, population health, and many more. While digging deeper into these to identify ways to improve patient care, it became apparent they are deeply intertwined with the rest of the American social fabric, and there is no way to use them in healthcare without addressing the underlying social issues at the same time.

About Us – Site Purpose

This site is central to our effort to unify these issues. We realize that any successful change will require a large-scale effort from many people. We see a lot of work already happening, but we also see a combination of factors making this work less effective, and want to do what we can to improve these efforts.

Our Goal

Our goal is to:

  • Identify the relevant issues
  • Show how they interact with each other
  • Share potential solutions
  • Highlight organizations working effectively on solutions
  • Respond to relevant news
  • And give readers steps they can take to help

We want to do all this in a balanced manner, addressing the key concerns from each side of the issue – something that seems to be lost in the mainstream media approach that is currently reinforcing the polarization of America.
